CTI Merit Formula 2026-27
For the 2026-27 induction, the Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab calculates CTI merit out of 100 marks:
| Component | Marks | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| Educational qualification | 85 | Every candidate, based on academic percentages |
| Prior performance as CTI | 10 | Candidates who served as CTIs in the last session with a satisfactory evaluation |
| Interview / presentation | 5 | Awarded by the college committee |
Because qualification carries 85 marks, your academic record decides almost everything. For a first-time applicant, the maximum possible merit is 90 (85 + 5), while a returning CTI with a good evaluation can reach up to 100. Read the full eligibility rules in our CTI 2026-27 complete guide.
How Qualification Marks Are Calculated
HED has not published a public step-by-step sheet for the 85 marks, but the split most widely reported for this cycle gives weight to each stage of education. Our calculator uses this split:
| Degree path | Matric | Intermediate | Graduation | BS / Master’s | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BS 4-year (16 years) | 15 | 20 | – | 50 | 85 |
| BA/BSc + MA/MSc | 15 | 20 | 15 | 35 | 85 |
Each stage is converted to a percentage and multiplied by its weight. For example, 80% in Matric gives 0.80 × 15 = 12 marks. If your degree is on CGPA, the calculator uses CGPA ÷ 4.00. Different reports describe the internal split slightly differently, so treat the result as a close estimate. The official calculation on the CTI portal is final.
Worked Example
Suppose Ayesha has BS English with these marks and is applying for the first time:
| Level | Marks | Percentage | Weight | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matric | 935 / 1100 | 85.0% | 15 | 12.75 |
| Intermediate | 880 / 1100 | 80.0% | 20 | 16.00 |
| BS English | 3.40 / 4.00 | 85.0% | 50 | 42.50 |
| Qualification total | 85 | 71.25 | ||
| Prior CTI | Not served | 10 | 0 | |
| Interview | Expected | 5 | 3.5 | |
| Estimated merit | 100 | 74.75 |
Ayesha’s estimated merit is 74.75. A returning CTI with the same marks and a satisfactory evaluation could add up to 10 more marks, which shows how valuable good performance during the internship has become.
What Changed This Year
- Percentages instead of slabs: The old slab system for semester or yearly marks has been replaced with actual percentages, so every mark now counts.
- Prior CTI performance: Up to 10 marks reward interns who served with satisfactory evaluations, in line with the new CTI contract rules.
- Small interview weight: The interview is only 5 marks, so it rarely changes positions by much. Prepare anyway with our CTI interview presentation guide.
Common CTI Merit Calculation Mistakes
Most wrong merit scores on the list come from small entry errors on the portal, not from the formula itself. Check these before you file any complaint:
- Wrong total marks: Entering 1050 instead of 1100 for Matric, or the total of one year instead of both parts of Intermediate.
- CGPA vs percentage: Entering a CGPA in a percentage field, or converting CGPA to percentage with a university formula the portal does not use.
- Missing graduation record: Candidates with BA/BSc + MA/MSc who skip the graduation row lose up to 15 marks.
- Supplementary or improved marks: If you improved your marks, make sure the final DMC you uploaded matches the marks you entered.
- Prior CTI service not claimed: Returning interns who forget to add their service can miss up to 10 marks.
Tips to Improve Your CTI Merit Position
Your academic marks cannot change now, but your position still can. Apply against subjects and colleges where fewer candidates compete, such as colleges in smaller towns, and keep an eye on adjusted and vacant CTI seats that open when selected candidates do not join. If you are selected this year, perform well and get a good evaluation from your principal, because those 10 prior-performance marks can put you far ahead of fresh applicants next session. Finally, keep scanned copies of all DMCs ready, so you can respond quickly whenever HED opens a new round.
How to Use Your Result
Compare your estimate with the merit shown on the tentative and final lists. If your calculated qualification marks are clearly higher than the list shows, check what you entered on the portal and file a grievance on 27–28 October with your DMCs. If you are selected, move on to our CTI joining 2026 guide and see what you will earn with the CTI stipend 2026-27 calculator. For the latest lists, follow the CTI merit list 2026-27 page. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CTI merit formula for 2026-27?
CTI merit is out of 100: educational qualification 85, prior performance as CTI 10 and interview 5.
How are CTI qualification marks calculated?
Each level of education is converted to a percentage and multiplied by its weight within the 85 marks. The old slab system has been replaced with actual percentages.
Is the CTI merit calculator official?
No. It is a free estimate tool by sti.org.pk. The official merit is calculated by HED on the CTI portal.
Can a fresh candidate get 100 marks in CTI merit?

What if my CTI merit on the list is wrong?
File a written grievance with documents at the divisional committee on 27–28 October 2026.
Bottom line: Your degree percentages decide most of your CTI merit. Use the calculator to check your position, correct any mistakes through the grievance process and plan your next step with confidence.
