Govt Considering PTA Mobile Tax Relief for Overseas Pakistanis Before Budget 2026-27

The government is considering major relief in PTA mobile phone taxes for overseas Pakistanis. The update was shared in the Senate by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

During the Senate session, the minister said overseas Pakistanis have repeatedly requested relaxation in PTA mobile registration taxes. The demand was raised during several overseas conventions held in Pakistan.

Currently, mobile phones brought from abroad work only for a limited time without PTA approval. After a few weeks, services are blocked unless users pay the required PTA tax.

Officials say different tax rates are applied to different smartphone models in Pakistan. Because of high taxes, many overseas Pakistanis face problems registering imported mobile phones.

The government is now reviewing proposals to reduce the tax burden on overseas Pakistanis. The possible relief may become part of upcoming economic and taxation reforms.

The latest development comes after the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance directed authorities to review taxes and duties on imported mobile phones for Budget 2026-27.

Experts believe reducing PTA mobile taxes could help overseas Pakistanis legally register their smartphones more easily. The move may also improve mobile phone imports through official channels.

More details regarding PTA tax reduction, new mobile registration rules, and budget announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
