Every year, the same question fills comment sections and WhatsApp groups: “What will my merit be?” Fresh hiring for the School Teacher Internship Program 2026-27 has started across Punjab, and the competition for good schools is high. To help you plan, we have built a simple STI merit calculator that estimates your score in less than a minute. Official notices are published on the STI portal and the School Education Department Punjab website.
Just enter your marks, choose whether you have a B.Ed or M.Ed, and the tool will show your estimated STI merit score out of 100. Below the tool, we explain how the calculation works and how to use the result to pick the right schools.

Free STI Merit Calculator 2026-27
Fill in your obtained and total marks for each level. If your degree shows a CGPA, enter your CGPA as “obtained” and 4.00 as “total”. Leave any row empty if it does not apply to you.
STI Merit Calculator 2026-27
The STI merit calculator works on your phone too, and nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere. It simply does the math inside your browser, so you can try different combinations, for example with and without B.Ed, to see how much each part affects your score.
The result from our STI merit calculator is an estimate. The final merit is prepared by the District Education Authority (DEA) after verifying your documents and conducting the interview. Still, the estimate is very useful for comparing your position with other candidates applying to the same school.
How the STI Merit Calculator Works
Under the STI Program, selection is based on academic record, professional qualification and a short interview. The detailed weightage for 2026-27 has not been published as a separate public document, so our calculator follows the structure widely reported in the previous cycle:
| Component | Weight in Calculator | How Marks Are Given |
|---|---|---|
| Matric (SSC) | 15 | Your percentage × 15 |
| Intermediate (HSSC) | 15 | Your percentage × 15 |
| Highest degree (BA/BSc, BS or MA/MSc) | 55 | Your percentage or CGPA ratio × 55 |
| Professional qualification (B.Ed/M.Ed) | 10 | 10 if you have it, 0 if not |
| Interview | 5 | Given by the selection committee |
| Total | 100 |
If the department issues a different formula for your district, the district list will follow that formula. You can read our detailed note on how the STI merit score is calculated for more background.
Example: Calculating STI Merit Step by Step
Let’s take Ayesha, who is applying for an elementary post in her district:
- Matric: 920 out of 1100 = 83.6% → 83.6% of 15 = 12.55
- Intermediate: 810 out of 1100 = 73.6% → 73.6% of 15 = 11.05
- BS (4-year): CGPA 3.20 out of 4.00 = 80% → 80% of 55 = 44.00
- B.Ed: Yes → 10
- Interview: expected 4 out of 5
Ayesha’s estimated STI merit is 12.55 + 11.05 + 44 + 10 + 4 = 81.6 out of 100. That is a strong score, so she can apply to popular schools near her home with good confidence.
What Is a Good STI Merit Score?
There is no fixed cut-off. Merit depends on how many people apply to the same school and subject. From the trend in previous merit lists, these rough ranges help:
- 75 and above: Strong. Usually competitive for city and tehsil-level schools.
- 60 to 75: Fair. Good chances if you apply to schools with more vacancies or in rural areas.
- Below 60: Apply widely, and focus on subjects and schools where fewer people apply.
The district-wise STI vacancies list and the STI school list for Punjab will show you where seats are available, so you can match your score with the right schools.
Merit Is School-Wise, Not District-Wise
This is the point most candidates miss. STI vacancies are announced against specific schools, and the merit list is made for each school and post separately. So your STI merit score is compared only with people who applied to the same school and subject. A score of 65 might lose at a busy city school but win easily at a village school where only three people applied.
That is why the STI merit calculator is most useful when you compare your score with the number of applicants you expect at each school. Schools close to main roads and city centres usually get more applications. Schools in remote union councils often get far fewer.
Common Mistakes When Calculating Merit
- Using the wrong total marks. Matric and Inter totals are usually 1100 in Punjab boards, but older results may be 850 or 1050. Use the total printed on your own certificate.
- Entering CGPA as a percentage. If your degree shows 3.1 CGPA, do not enter 3.1 out of 100. Enter 3.1 out of 4.00.
- Counting both BA and MA. The calculator uses your highest relevant degree only.
- Assuming full interview marks. Keep your interview estimate realistic, around 3 or 4.

How to Improve Your Chances of Selection
You cannot change your past marks, but you can still improve your chances in other ways:
- Apply to the right level. Primary, elementary and secondary posts have different requirements. Check the STI eligibility criteria 2026-27 before you apply.
- Enter marks exactly as on your documents. Wrong marks lead to rejection at verification. See our list of common STI online apply mistakes.
- Add your professional qualification. If you hold B.Ed, M.Ed or ADE, make sure it is entered in your profile.
- Prepare for the interview. The interview is small in weight but can decide a close race. Practice with our STI interview questions and answers.
- Choose schools smartly. Our guide on choosing the best school for STI posting explains how.

STI Merit Calculator FAQs
Is this the official STI merit calculator?
No. This is a free tool by STI.org.pk to estimate your score. The official merit is prepared by your District Education Authority, and you should always rely on the district list.
How do I enter my CGPA in the STI merit calculator?
Enter your CGPA (for example 3.25) in the “Obtained” box and 4.00 in the “Total” box. The tool converts it to a percentage automatically.
Which degree should I enter if I have both BA and MA?
Enter your highest relevant degree, usually the MA/MSc or BS that matches the subject you are applying for.
Does experience add marks in STI merit?
Teaching experience is generally treated as a preference, not a fixed mark, so the calculator does not add it. Mention it during your interview.
