Parents who still want a seat in a Punjab government school have only a few days left. The School Education Department has said government schools will take new admissions only until 31 October 2026, and admissions stop from 1 November. At the same time, every school has been given 48 hours to verify its student and staff records. Here is what parents and head teachers need to do this week.
For Parents: How to Get Admission Before 31 October
- Visit the nearest government school with your child during school hours. Winter timings are 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM (MondayβThursday) and 8:45 AM to 12:30 PM on Friday in single-shift schools.
- Take the child’s B-Form, or birth certificate if the B-Form is not made yet.
- Take a copy of the father’s or guardian’s CNIC and two recent photographs of the child.
- For a transfer from another school, bring the School Leaving Certificate and the last result card.
- Ask the school to enter the child in its records the same day, so the admission counts before the deadline.
Admission in government schools is free. If you are asked to pay an admission fee, contact the District Education Authority office.
For Head Teachers: The 48-Hour Verification Order
The department has ordered a province-wide verification of school and student records. Each school must:
- Remove fake or duplicate student entries.
- Update sanctioned and vacant staff positions.
- Verify classrooms and boundary walls.
- Report dangerous or unsafe buildings.
The department has warned that negligence will not be tolerated. Enrolment numbers now carry real weight: the government has decided to close schools with 100 or fewer students and is outsourcing 6,460 more schools in phase 4. Read our full report on Punjab school outsourcing phase 4.

Why Enrolment Matters This Year
Schools are under pressure to raise enrolment, and teacher bodies have already objected to 10% enrolment targets. Accurate admission records protect both students and schools when decisions about closure, outsourcing and teacher posts are made. See also the Punjab school census 2026.
