The Android September 2026 update features have been unveiled by Google, introducing five new capabilities across Gemini, Find Hub, accessibility tools and Google Messages. Some features are available immediately, while others will roll out later depending on the specific Android version and country.
Gemini Can Now Remember Where You Put Things
Among the standout Android September 2026 update features, Google will soon let users ask Gemini to remember where they placed important items. The feature is designed specifically for objects that normally don’t have tracking tags attached, such as passports or spare keys, filling a practical gap that physical trackers can’t cover for every item.
Users can tell Gemini where they left an item and optionally include a photo, and Gemini will save that information to Google Find Hub. Later, users can simply ask Gemini where the item is, or open the new remembered-items section inside Find Hub directly. The feature requires Android 16 or newer and will be available in countries where Gemini and Find Hub are already supported.
Motion Assist Targets Motion Sickness
Google is introducing Motion Assist for devices running Android 17. The feature displays moving bubbles over the screen that respond to the movement of the vehicle a user is traveling in, which Google says helps reduce the mismatch between what users see on their screens and the motion their bodies actually experience while traveling, a common trigger for motion sickness.
Motion Assist can activate automatically, be added to Quick Settings for manual control, and be customized with different bubble shapes, colors and opacity levels to suit individual preferences.
Gemini Live Adds Guided Vision
Google is also adding Guided Vision to Gemini Live. Users can share their phone camera with Gemini to get help reading small text, viewing menus in dark environments, or identifying objects around them. If the camera isn’t positioned correctly, Gemini provides voice instructions telling the user to move, reframe, or center the camera, making the feature particularly useful for users with visual impairments.
Guided Vision can be enabled through Accessibility shortcuts, the TalkBack menu, or Gemini settings directly. Google says it is coming soon to Android 9 and newer in countries where Gemini is available, giving it one of the broadest device compatibility ranges among this batch of updates.
Google Keep Integration in Messages
Google Messages is gaining direct integration with Google Keep. Users can now share and update notes or grocery lists without leaving a conversation, and everyone participating in the chat can view, edit and add items to the shared note or list in real time. The option is available through the “+” button inside Google Messages, and Google has already started rolling it out.
Custom Chat Themes for Messages
Rounding out this batch of Android September 2026 update features, Google is allowing users to give individual conversations their own backgrounds and color themes. Users can select a wallpaper or personal photo, after which Google Messages automatically adjusts the chat bubble colors to match, though bubble colors can also be changed manually if preferred. Unlike some of the other features in this rollout, custom chat themes are available immediately in Google Messages.
