So far, the program has trained 30 engineers, including seven women, selected from 20 districts spread across the country. This geographic spread suggests the initiative is intended to widen access to high-value tech training beyond the major metropolitan hubs, giving engineers from smaller cities a route into a specialized, higher-paying career track.
What the Training Actually Covers
Participants in the program received specialized instruction in advanced IC design, VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) verification, System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture, and industry-standard design tools used by semiconductor companies worldwide. Beyond classroom learning, trainees were also given exposure to real-world chip tapeout and fabrication processes, which are critical, hands-on stages of turning a chip design into a manufactured product.
This kind of practical exposure is relatively rare in Pakistan’s engineering education landscape, where many programs remain heavily theoretical. By connecting trainees directly with tapeout and fabrication workflows, the program aims to produce engineers who are immediately useful to semiconductor employers rather than requiring lengthy on-the-job retraining.
Strong Employment Outcomes
The employment results reported so far are notable. Of the 30 engineers trained, 23 have already secured jobs in Pakistan’s semiconductor industry, according to the ministry. The remaining seven trainees chose to pursue master’s degrees for further specialization rather than entering the job market immediately.
An employment rate of roughly 77 percent directly into the semiconductor sector suggests genuine industry demand for this skill set, rather than training being offered without a clear job pipeline. The ministry pointed to this employment figure as evidence that specialized IC design and verification expertise is now actively sought after by local semiconductor companies.
