Teachers in Punjab waiting years for promotion now have a fixed calendar to watch. The Punjab School Education Department has set a mandatory teacher promotion schedule under which every district must hold Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings four times a year. The next round falls in the first week of October 2026, just days away.

The new teacher promotion schedule requires DPC meetings four times a year.

The teacher promotion schedule at a glance:

  • The teacher promotion schedule fixes DPC meetings in January, April, July and October.
  • Eligible employees are tagged on the SIS portal in week three.
  • The actualization round opens in week four.
  • CEOs and DEOs will be judged on following the teacher promotion schedule.

The schedule is meant to end long gaps between promotion meetings, which have left many eligible teachers stuck in the same scale. It also makes district officers answerable if meetings are not held on time.

The New Teacher Promotion Schedule Explained

According to ProPakistani’s report of 31 August 2026, districts must hold DPC meetings in the first week of January, April, July and October every year. Each of these months follows the same three-step process:

WeekStep
Week 1DPC meetings held in the district
Week 3Eligible employees tagged on the School Information System (SIS) portal
Week 4Promotion actualization round opens

The department has told districts that all meetings scheduled for 2026 must be completed by October 2026. It has also warned of strict disciplinary action against officers who fail to follow the schedule.

Accountability has been built into the system. Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs) will be assessed on how quickly they process promotion cases. This gives district offices a direct reason to clear pending files rather than let them wait.

The report does not list specific scales or cadres, so the schedule appears to apply broadly to teachers and other employees of the department. Teachers should check with their district office which cases are listed for the October round.

What Teachers Should Do Before the October Round

With the first week of October almost here, teachers expecting promotion should act now. The most common reason for delay is incomplete records, so the priority is to make sure your file is ready.

  • Check that your service record, annual performance reports and qualifications are up to date
  • Confirm with your DEO office whether your case has been placed before the DPC
  • After the meeting, check the SIS portal in the third week to see whether you have been tagged
  • Watch for the actualization round in the fourth week and follow the instructions issued

If you are not tagged despite being eligible, raise the matter with your district office quickly, since the next round will not come until January 2027.

What It Means for STIs and Transfer Seekers

Promotions apply to regular employees, so School Teacher Interns are not part of this process. However, promotions can create vacancies at lower levels in schools. Over time, those gaps may be filled through regular hiring or, for temporary cover, through programmes such as STI. Interns can follow our report on the STI contract extension and our tracker of STI vacancies district-wise for openings.

Teachers seeking a change of station should note that a separate transfer window is currently open for hardship cases until 8 October. Details are in our report on Punjab teacher transfers under extreme hardship. Special education staff can also read about the relaxed transfer rules for their institutions.

The quarterly teacher promotion schedule could make promotions more predictable if districts follow it. Teachers should keep their records ready and track the October round closely. Follow our latest education news for updates.
