Pakistan collected more than Rs. 700 billion in taxes through electricity bills during fiscal year 2024-25, increasing the financial burden on consumers nationwide.
According to official figures, Lahore Electric Supply Company emerged as the highest tax-collecting power utility in the country.
LESCO reportedly collected over Rs. 198 billion in taxes from electricity consumers during the fiscal year.
Multan Electric Power Company and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company followed with tax collections of approximately Rs. 118 billion and Rs. 112 billion respectively.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Electric Supply Company collected around Rs. 87.63 billion in taxes from consumers in Islamabad and nearby areas.
Among other regional power companies, Peshawar Electric Supply Company generated more than Rs. 50 billion in tax collections.
Similarly, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company reportedly collected around Rs. 20 billion during the same period.
At the lower end, Tribal Electric Supply Company recorded a major decline and collected only around Rs. 190 million.
The latest figures highlight the growing dependence on indirect taxation through utility bills as electricity consumers continue facing rising energy costs and inflation.
Many consumers have complained that heavy taxes, fuel adjustments, and additional surcharges are making electricity bills increasingly unaffordable across Pakistan.
