The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across most parts of the country from September 12 to 17, with the system expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in several regions, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and parts of Sindh and Balochistan.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave combined with monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea is likely to trigger the rain spell, with isolated heavy falls and possible thunderstorms in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, and northern Punjab. Urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas of major cities during periods of intense rainfall.

Region-by-Region Forecast

In Punjab, cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Sialkot are expected to receive rain with occasional thunderstorms over the coming days. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to see heavier spells in Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, and surrounding hill stations, with the Met Office warning of possible landslides in vulnerable areas.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi are forecast to experience intermittent rain throughout the period, while parts of upper Sindh and eastern Balochistan may also see scattered showers. Karachi and coastal Sindh are covered under a separate, more specific alert for the days ahead given the city’s history of urban flooding during heavy downpours.

Safety Advisory for Residents

The National Disaster Management Authority and provincial disaster management authorities have advised residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Farmers have also been cautioned about the potential impact of continued rain on standing crops, particularly in areas where harvesting is currently underway.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution on roads prone to waterlogging, and residents near river embankments and hill torrents have been urged to stay updated through official weather advisories as the monsoon system moves across the country over the coming week.
