Breaking News: Teacher Shortage in KP Shuts 7 Girls Schools in Bara – 101 Posts Vacant

Nov 3, 2026

The teacher shortage in KP has reached a point where classrooms are simply locking their doors. Seven government girls primary schools in Bara tehsil of Khyber district have been closed, four of them because there is no teacher left to run them and three because of law and order concerns. The news, reported on 2 November 2026, has once again put the spotlight on the thousands of empty teaching posts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa schools.

For parents in Bara, this is not a statistic. It means young girls who were finally getting a chance to study are now sitting at home, and many of them may never return to school if the problem is not fixed quickly.

Teacher Shortage in KP: What Happened in Bara

According to education officials, Bara has 142 government primary schools. On paper, these schools have 310 sanctioned teaching posts. In reality, only 209 posts are filled, leaving 101 posts vacant. The non-teaching side is in a slightly better position, with 236 out of 270 posts filled.

Sub-Divisional Education Officer (Female) Bara, Shakeela Hussain, explained that most primary schools in the sub-division have only one or two permanent female teachers. Some of these schools have close to 500 students. When even one teacher retires, goes on leave, or is transferred, the whole school can stop functioning.

List of Bara Girls Schools Closed

The schools that have been shut fall into two groups.

Closed Due to Shortage of Teachers

  • Government Girls Primary School Tangi Nazar Khel, Bargambar Khel
  • Government Girls Primary School Ham Kalay, Tarkhuks Upper Bara
  • Government Girls Primary School Haji Mina Dar Khan Kalay, Akakhel
  • Government Girls Primary School Khuga Jan, Bara

Closed Due to Security Concerns

  • Government Girls Primary School Khwaja Kalay, Tirah
  • Government Girls Primary School Muhammad Din Shah
  • Government Girls Primary School Zale Khan, Tirah

So the Bara girls schools closed list covers both the plains and the Tirah valley, where security has been a long-standing issue.

Stopgap Plan: 300 PTC Female Teachers

To keep classes running, the education department has started hiring PTC female teachers through the Parent-Teacher Councils. Against 300 posts, 282 local candidates have been selected. These teachers will work until the end of the current academic session.

This is a useful short-term step because local women can reach nearby schools easily and families are more comfortable with them. However, PTC appointments are temporary and low-paid, so they cannot replace regular, trained teachers. Unless permanent recruitment happens, the same teacher shortage in KP will return next year.

Why KP Teacher Vacancies Keep Growing

There are several reasons why KP teacher vacancies remain unfilled, especially in merged districts:

  • Ban on recruitment and transfers: The provincial government has repeatedly restricted new hiring and transfers, which slows down the filling of vacant posts.
  • Rising enrolment: More girls are enrolling in schools, but the number of teachers has not grown at the same pace.
  • Remote and insecure areas: Teachers from other areas are often unwilling to serve in places like Tirah because of distance and security.
  • Retirements: Every year a number of senior teachers retire, and replacements take months or even years.

Bigger Picture: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Schools Under Pressure

The Bara closures come at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa schools are already under scrutiny. After a private school building collapsed in Peshawar in October, a provincial survey found that 4,049 government schools are in dangerous condition. Repairing them is estimated to cost around Rs16.2 billion, covering 8,088 classrooms, 2,949 latrine blocks and 48 examination halls. Several districts, including Swabi, have also started sealing unsafe school buildings.

When weak buildings and the teacher shortage in KP come together, the result is that children, especially girls, lose precious years of education.

What Teachers and Job Seekers Should Know

For qualified young women in Khyber district, the teacher shortage in KP also means opportunity. Keep an eye on:

  • Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) hiring announcements in your area
  • Upcoming KPPSC and ETEA teaching posts for PST and SST
  • District Education Office notices for temporary and regular appointments
