ByMuqaddas Tahreem

Oct 6, 2026

Fresh hiring of School Teacher Interns has been approved in Punjab, and the first question most candidates ask is simple: how many STI vacancies are there in my district? This guide tracks STI vacancies district-wise for 2026 across all 41 districts of Punjab, explains how the district-wise allocation works, and shows you what to do while seat numbers are awaited.

The STI vacancies 2026 position in brief:

  • STI vacancies 2026 were approved on 25 September 2026.
  • Seats follow a district-wise allocation across 41 districts.
  • District seat numbers have not been published publicly yet.
  • The last cycle charged Rs1,000 per school to apply; the 2026 fee will be confirmed on the portal.

You can also use our STI Vacancy Finder below. Select your district and school level to see the current status, the stipend slab for that level and the office to contact.

Current Status of STI Vacancies 2026

On 25 September 2026, the Punjab School Education Department issued a notification that did two things. It allowed already engaged interns to continue through fresh agreements until 31 May 2027, and it permitted fresh hiring of School Teacher Interns against vacant slots. The fresh hiring is to follow the STI Program 2024 and the district-wise allocation attached to the notification.

However, the district-wise seat numbers have not been published publicly, and no Punjab-wide application schedule or deadline has been announced. So while vacancies clearly exist, the exact number for each district is still awaited. We explain the notification in detail in our report on fresh STI hiring against vacant slots.

How the District-Wise Allocation Works

The allocation is the department’s decision on how many vacant STI slots each district can fill. It is based on where schools actually need teachers. Several factors can shape it:

  • The number of vacant teaching posts in government schools
  • Student enrollment, since schools with more children need more teachers
  • Subject shortages, for example in science, mathematics or English
  • The school level, as primary, elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools have different needs

This is why two districts of similar size can receive very different numbers of seats. It also means the ongoing review of schools with fewer than 20 students per class could affect where vacancies appear. We have covered that review in our report on the Punjab low-enrollment schools policy.

STI Vacancies in All 41 Districts of Punjab

If your district is one of the newer ones, such as Murree, Talagang, Wazirabad, Kot Addu or Taunsa, check with the District Education Authority about which office is handling STI recruitment, as administrative arrangements can differ.

Stipend by School Level

The level of school you are placed in decides your stipend slab. The figures below are the monthly stipend amounts reported for the STI Program 2024, under which the 2026 hiring is being done:

School levelMonthly stipend (STI Program 2024)
PrimaryRs38,000
ElementaryRs40,000
Secondary (High)Rs45,000
Higher SecondaryRs45,000

The stipend is linked to attendance. Use our STI stipend 2026-27 calculator to estimate your monthly payment, including the reported Rs15,000 allowance for eligible interns.

How to Find Vacancies Near You

Until the allocation is published, the most reliable information comes from the ground. Here is how to stay ahead:

  1. Contact the CEO office of your District Education Authority and ask whether the STI allocation has been received.
  2. Visit nearby government schools and ask the head teacher about vacant teaching posts in your subject.
  3. Check official notices on the School Education Department website, schools.punjab.gov.pk.
  4. Keep your documents ready so you can apply quickly once the process opens.
  5. Follow this page, which we update when official numbers are released.

Who Can Apply for These Vacancies?

Fresh hiring is conducted under the STI Program 2024 criteria. Our detailed guide on who can apply for the STI programme explains the qualification and eligibility rules. Former interns who resigned before 31 May 2026 are not eligible for the extension but may be able to apply in fresh hiring if they meet the criteria. Serving Phase One and Phase Two interns do not need to apply again; they continue through fresh agreements, which you can check with our STI fresh agreement checker.

Beware of Fake Vacancy Lists

Whenever recruitment is announced, fake “district-wise vacancy lists” start circulating on WhatsApp and social media. Some ask for fees or personal details. Remember:

  • The department has not published district-wise seat numbers publicly as of 29 September 2026.
  • There is no fee to be selected as an STI.
  • Only official notices and your District Education Authority can confirm vacancies.

What Happens After Vacancies Are Announced

Once the allocation is released and applications open, the process is expected to move quickly. In the last cycle, the schedule from initial merit list to planned appointment orders was about a week in December 2025, although orders were later delayed by objections. Initial lists were displayed on school notice boards, objections were heard at tehsil level over two days, shortlisted candidates were interviewed, and final lists and appointment orders followed.

This short timeline is the main reason to prepare now. Candidates who already have attested copies of their documents, a clear idea of the schools they are targeting and some interview practice are in a much stronger position than those who start only after the announcement.

Tips for Choosing the Right School

Because STI placements are linked to specific schools, where you apply matters as much as when you apply. A few practical tips:

  • Think about travel. Daily attendance affects your stipend, so a school you can reach reliably is worth more than one slightly closer to home but hard to reach.
  • Match your subject. Schools with a shortage in your subject are more likely to have a vacancy that fits your qualification.
  • Consider the school level. Higher levels carry higher stipend slabs, but may require stronger subject qualifications.
  • Ask about workload. Head teachers can give you a realistic idea of class sizes and duties.

Documents to Keep Ready

When applications open, the window may be short. Prepare these in advance: CNIC copies, attested copies of your degrees and transcripts, domicile certificate if required by the criteria, recent photographs and an active bank account. Having everything ready lets you apply on the first day and avoid errors that can cost you a place on the merit list.
