Pound to PKR Rate Falls Again

BySammar Abbas

Sep 23, 2026

The Pakistani rupee continued its strong run in the interbank market on Wednesday, gaining ground against all major currencies. The Pound to PKR rate fell by 88 paisas to close at around Rs. 368.82, as the British Pound kept sliding against the local currency and moved closer to lower levels that were last seen months ago.

The rupee also closed in the green against the US Dollar for the 246th consecutive day, ending the session at Rs. 277.20 after gaining about one paisa. It has been gaining steadily against the dollar since December 25, 2025, a streak that has boosted confidence in the local currency and helped bring down the cost of imports.

Currency dealers say that at the current pace, the pound could slip further against the rupee in the coming days if the trend continues. However, exchange rates can change quickly depending on global market movements, local inflows and the country’s external payments.

Pound to PKR and Other Currency Rates Today

Apart from the pound, the rupee gained 45 paisas against the Euro to close at Rs. 316.58 and 54 paisas against the Canadian Dollar to settle at Rs. 196.79. It also gained 23 paisas against the Australian Dollar, which closed at Rs. 196.41, and 2.6 paisas against the Chinese Yuan.

The rupee remained largely stable against the UAE Dirham and the Saudi Riyal, with only minor changes of less than a paisa. The dirham closed at Rs. 75.48 and the riyal at Rs. 73.82, which is important for the large number of Pakistani families that receive remittances from the Gulf countries.

What the Rupee Trend Means for You

A falling pound means that overseas Pakistanis in the United Kingdom will receive slightly fewer rupees for every pound they send home. On the other hand, students paying university fees in the UK and travellers planning trips to Britain will benefit, as they will need fewer rupees to buy the same amount of pounds.

For importers, a stronger rupee reduces the cost of goods bought from abroad, which can help ease inflation over time. Analysts link the rupee’s stability to improved foreign exchange reserves and rising export earnings, including IT exports. Projects such as the Karachi IT Park, which aims to generate up to $100 million in annual ICT exports, are part of the government’s plan to further strengthen the country’s dollar inflows.

Exporters, however, often prefer a weaker rupee because it makes Pakistani products cheaper in international markets. The State Bank of Pakistan generally allows the exchange rate to be determined by the market while stepping in only to prevent excessive swings.

Open market rates may differ slightly from interbank rates, so anyone planning to buy or sell foreign currency should check with authorised exchange companies before making a transaction. Rates are updated daily, and small changes can make a noticeable difference for larger amounts.
