Two major companies of the Nishat Group, Nishat Mills Limited and D.G. Khan Cement Company Limited, have signed agreements to install solar power plants and battery energy storage systems at their facilities. The Nishat solar projects will add 45MW of solar generation capacity and 45MWh of battery storage, and both are expected to start producing electricity in March 2027.

Both companies disclosed the agreements to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on September 23, 2026, under the applicable securities disclosure rules. The move reflects a growing trend among large industrial groups in Pakistan to reduce their dependence on the national grid and lower their energy costs by shifting to renewable sources.

Nishat Mills has signed its agreement with EBR Energy Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, China’s Sungrow Power Supply Co. Ltd. and Pragmatic Engineering Solutions FZE. Under the deal, these companies will supply and install a 20MW PV solar power plant and a 35MWh battery energy storage system at Nishat Mills’ plants located at Bekhi and Ferozwattan on Sheikhupura Faisalabad Road.

Nishat Solar Projects at Textile and Cement Plants

D.G. Khan Cement has signed a separate agreement with the same companies for a 25MW PV solar power plant and a 10MWh battery energy storage system. This project will be installed at the company’s cement plant in Mauza Khofli Sattai, Dera Ghazi Khan, one of its main production sites.

Battery energy storage systems allow factories to store extra solar power generated during the day and use it later, including during evening hours or when grid supply is disrupted. This helps industries make better use of their solar investment and maintain a steady power supply for continuous production processes.

Textile and cement are two of Pakistan’s most energy-intensive industries. High electricity tariffs and frequent supply issues have pushed many companies in these sectors to invest in their own power generation. Solar power, supported by falling equipment prices, has become one of the most attractive options for reducing long-term operating costs.

The debate over power tariffs has also intensified across the country. In Karachi, for example, K-Electric recently lost its appeal against NEPRA over its multi-year tariff, highlighting how pricing decisions continue to shape the power sector and push large consumers towards self-generation.

About Nishat Mills and D.G. Khan Cement

Nishat Mills Limited, the flagship company of Nishat Group, was established in 1951. It is one of Pakistan’s largest vertically integrated textile companies, covering spinning, weaving, processing, stitching, apparel and power generation. The company is also involved in the sale and supply of electricity.

D.G. Khan Cement Company Limited was established in 1978 and started commercial production in 1986. The company is majority owned by Nishat Group and is mainly engaged in the production and sale of clinker and cement from its manufacturing facilities.

With these two projects, Nishat Group is strengthening its position in clean energy while also protecting its businesses from rising power costs. Analysts believe more listed companies are likely to follow similar paths in the coming years, as solar and battery storage become cheaper and industries look for reliable and affordable electricity.
