The Punjab Home Department has approved a significant amendment to its agreement with NADRA, paving the way for citizens to obtain digital arms license credentials instantly through the Pak ID Wallet.
What Has Changed
The revised agreement removes the single sign-on authentication and shared login provisions that were part of the earlier arrangement, following concerns raised over technical and security issues. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had recommended dropping the single sign-on provision, and the change was approved after a full legal review.
How the New System Will Work
Under the updated framework, license holders will be able to access verifiable digital credentials linked to their Punjab arms licenses directly through the Pak ID Wallet. This means citizens will no longer need to rely solely on physical documentation to prove their license status when required by law enforcement or other authorities.
The extended agreement between the Punjab Home Department and NADRA covers the period from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2026, giving the digital credentialing system a defined operational window.
Why the Change Matters
Officials said the initiative is designed to make license verification “easier, faster, and more secure” for arms license holders across the province. By shifting to a digital-first model through Pak ID Wallet, the Home Department aims to reduce dependence on physical paperwork while strengthening the security of the verification process itself.
