33 Pakistani universities in US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026-27

A total of 33 Pakistani universities have secured spots in the US News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings 2026-27, with COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) emerging as the country’s highest-ranked institution at 410th globally.

The rankings evaluated more than 2,250 universities across over 100 countries, with institutions judged primarily on academic research performance and reputation. COMSATS leads the Pakistani list with an overall score of 52.0, followed by Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) at 451st globally with a score of 50.7, and the University of Lahore in third place at 479th.

Other Pakistani institutions in the list include the University of Management and Technology (UMT) at 573rd, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) at 590th, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad at 633rd, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur at 693rd, and Aga Khan University at 739th. Also featured are the University of Punjab, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Government College University Faisalabad, and well-known names such as the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) at 1,298th and the University of Karachi at 1,728th. Eight further institutions, including NED University of Engineering and Technology, Sukkur IBA University and the University of Sindh, appear on the list without an overall global rank or score.

At the global level, Harvard University topped the 2026-27 rankings, followed by MIT, Stanford, the University of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge rounding out the top five. US News said its Best Global Universities methodology focuses on each institution’s research mission and scholarly impact, considering indicators such as publications, citations and international collaboration.
