Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur has cancelled the academic records of 1,184 LLB candidates after an inquiry found that their results had been entered into the university system without lawful authority. The decision means that all related results, transcripts, provisional certificates and degrees are now treated as void. This is one of the biggest actions against fake LLB degrees in Sindh and has sent a strong message to affiliated law colleges across the province.

SALU Notification on Fake LLB Degrees
The university issued the notification on 16 October 2026, and the news became public on 18 October. According to the notification, the cancelled records include:
| Programme | Candidates Affected |
|---|---|
| Three-year LLB | 658 |
| Five-year LLB | 526 |
| Total | 1,184 |
The university has declared that any result, transcript, provisional certificate or degree certificate linked to these records is void from the start. In simple words, SALU will not recognise these documents at all.
How the Inquiry Was Conducted
The action did not happen overnight. The SALU Syndicate passed resolutions at its 92nd meeting on 11 April 2026, which led to a formal inquiry. The inquiry committee:
- Examined three-year LLB records for the passing years 2016, 2017 and 2018
- Examined five-year LLB records for the 2017 batch
- Compared the university’s records with the records of affiliated law colleges
- Flagged entries that appeared to have been added improperly
Candidates were given a chance
In July 2026, the university published a final public notice on its website and in national newspapers. Affected candidates were given 15 days to submit documents proving that their records were genuine. After reviewing the applications and evidence from candidates and colleges, the committee decided that the disputed records were not part of the university’s lawful academic record.

Which Colleges Are Involved?
A list attached to the notification names the candidates and their colleges. It includes affiliated law colleges in Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Kashmore. Copies of the notification have been sent to the principals of these colleges.

Who Has Been Informed?
To make sure the cancelled degrees cannot be used anywhere, SALU sent copies of the notification to:
- Higher Education Commission (HEC)
- Pakistan Bar Council
- Sindh Bar Council
- Punjab Bar Council
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council
- Balochistan Bar Council
This means that anyone holding one of these cancelled degrees may face problems in getting or keeping a lawyer’s licence, and HEC degree verification for such documents will not be possible.

A Growing Problem in Pakistan
This is not the first such case. Media reports say SALU cancelled around 1,280 LLB degrees last year as well. In another case, the FIA registered a case against 58 CDA employees over fake degrees. HEC has also previously been directed to review university degrees across the country. Earlier this month, we also reported on a Karachi University LLB scandal where failed students were allegedly passed.
What Students and Teachers Should Learn From This
For students, the lesson is clear: always take admission in a properly affiliated and recognised college, attend classes and sit exams through official channels. Keep copies of admission letters, fee receipts, roll number slips and result cards. For teachers and college staff, record keeping and transparent exam processes are now more important than ever, as universities are actively matching their records with college data.

How to Verify an LLB Degree Before Trusting It
Employers, law firms and bar councils can protect themselves by checking degrees properly. The safest way is to confirm the record directly with the awarding university’s examination department and then use the official HEC degree verification system. Students who are unsure about their own record should contact the university’s controller of examinations with their enrolment number, roll number slips and fee receipts. If a genuine student’s name appears on a cancellation list by mistake, they should immediately submit written proof to the university and seek legal advice, because time limits for appeals can be short.
