BankIslami Rolls Out Pakistan’s First Gold-Based Islamic Financing

BankIslami has launched Pakistan’s first Shariah-compliant Gold-Based Financing facility, allowing customers to access Islamic financing against their gold assets. The move positions the bank as the first Islamic lender in the country to offer this type of Riba-free financing option.

How the Gold-Based Facility Works

The new offering allows customers to avail financing of up to PKR 5 million against their gold holdings, with flexible repayment tenures extending to four years. Rather than a conventional interest-bearing loan, the facility is structured around Musawamah, a Shariah-compliant sale mechanism that provides an asset-backed financing solution while keeping the transaction aligned with Islamic banking principles throughout.

Because the structure is asset-backed rather than interest-based, customers can unlock liquidity from an asset they already hold without compromising on religious compliance. Gold-backed financing has traditionally been dominated by conventional lenders in Pakistan, making this launch notable as the first attempt by an Islamic bank to serve that same need through a fully Shariah-compliant structure. BankIslami said the facility is designed to give customers a secure and innovative way to meet financial needs while remaining true to Islamic finance principles, an approach the bank has branded around its mission of Saving Humanity from Riba.

Part of a Broader Push in Islamic Finance

The launch adds to BankIslami’s expanding portfolio of retail financing solutions and reflects a broader industry push toward financial inclusion through Shariah-compliant products. Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector has grown steadily in recent years as more institutions look to serve customers who prefer to avoid conventional interest-based products, and gold-based financing fills a gap that had previously been served only by conventional banks and informal lenders.

The move also comes as Pakistan’s broader financial sector works to widen access to formal credit and build customer trust in regulated institutions. Just as scammers exploiting fake PTA alerts highlight the importance of verified official channels, banks like BankIslami are positioning transparent, Shariah-compliant products as a trustworthy alternative for customers navigating an increasingly complex financial landscape. The bank said it remains committed to customer-centric innovation and making Islamic banking more accessible across the country, with further product launches expected as the retail financing segment continues to grow.
